A natural shellac based product, suitable for most types of timber substrates. Particularly used under shellac finishes like French Polishes and an ideal sealer under BRIWAX wax polishes to produce a higher shine.

Spirit Dyes

USAGE:
Directly onto bare or filled timber to enhance the grain. Can be used as a tint in shellac based products, such as French Polishes and Shellac Sanding Sealer . Can also be used to tint oil varnishes. May also be used as a shading or matching stain, in thin films between coat of polishes and varnishes.

- Coverage :10 -12 sq/m per litre.
- Drying Time (TOUCH) :2 - 5 minutes.

Specification:
Prepare timber to a standard ready to finish. Apply stain, wiping off excess with a lint free cloth. When dry the stain can be overcoated with Briwax, French and Shellac based polishes.
NOTES:
When using the Spirit Dyes under Briwax, French and Shellac based polishes, it is recommended that the Shellac Sanding Sealer should be used. This will prevent the reworking of the Spirit Dyes.

French Polishes
USAGE:
Traditional french polishes are used to obtain an impressive deep gloss and smooth finish on good quality furniture. The BRIWAX polishes are to the same meticulous time proven method that has been used for centuries. They are blended from shellacs, dissolved in industrial methylated spirit or similar alcohols, varying in strength and colour, depending on the polish chosen.
- Method Of Application : Polishers Fad, Brush or Conventional Spray.
- Coverage : 10 - 12 square metre per litre.
- Drying Time (TOUCH) : 10 - 15 minutes.
- Drying Time (RECOAT) : See Specification.
- Pack Size : 250ml and 500ml.

- Thinners : 1000 Thinners.
- Finish : Gloss.
- Equipment Cleaner : 1000 Thinners and Methylated Spirits*.

SPECIFICATION:
Lightly sand timber to an even and smooth surface. Do not use an orbital sander as this will produce minute circular scratches which the polish will emphasise. A 400 grit abrasive paper is adequate. (Apply woodgrain filer if you require the grain to be filled). Allow 24 hours to fully dry. Brwax Spirit based or Water based can be used to achieve an old fashion antique effects on furniture. Briwax manufactured a large range of colours (see colour card) in the water and spirit bases. Allow to fully dry.
In between coats of frech polish, ensure that the coats are fully dry ( especially when brushing), if not this will result in solvent entrapment which will lead to print marking from the table maps etc.
It is advisable to apply a thin coat of shellac sanding sealer onto the stained surface to seal in the stain surface. Once dry, lightly sand and apply the french polish.
Allow the french polish 24 hours to fully dry off. If the polish has raised any wood fibres, lightly go over the surface with the finest flour grade paper to remove the grain fibre. Apply more coats of french polish, if required, taking the utmost care not to damaged the existing french polish applied the day before. In between coats of french polish, ensure that the coats are fully dry (especially when brushing), if not this will result in solvent entrapment which will lead to print marking.

- All colours in the range are intermixable, they can be reduced in strength by addition with water.

Briwax THIXOTROPIC WOOD GRAIN FILLER
USAGE:
For filling grain of solid timber or wood veneer prior to finishing.
METHOD OF APPLICATION: By hand, brush or spray. Rub off across the grain.

- DRYING TIME (TOUCH): 1 hour approx.

- COLOR RANGE : Transparent (Dries off white), Light Oak, Mahogany, White (can be used as a liming filler)

FURTHER INFORMATION: Thixotropic Wood Grain Filler is a blend of filling and coloring pigments mixed to a heavy, thixotropic paste for ease of application. It is important that the filled surface is dry and sanded before finishing. Thixotropic Wood Grain Filler is suitable for use under nearly all finishing systems.
SPECIFICATION:
- Thixotropic Wood Grain Filler can be stained, after application, when dry and sanded with a colorfast stain before finishing.
For a limed effect: Use open grained timer (i.e oak) prepare timber in normal way. Wire brush grain to remove fibers etc. Apply white Thixoptropic Wood Grain Filler across the grain with course cloth. Allow to dry. Sand along grain to remove excess. Finish with desired system.
Store away from heat and flame. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying and keep out of reach of children.
